Weird Laws in Michigan That You Don’t Know About

Laws are created to protect our general rights and safety, but let’s face it, there are some laws that are simply odd and weird.

Each and every state has its own share of weird laws/crazy laws, and here are four from the state of Michigan that you most likely have not heard before.

Weird Laws in Michigan

1. Seducing and Corrupting an Unmarried Girl is Illegal

Per Michigan Law section 750.532, any man who shall seduce and debauch any unmarried woman shall be guilty of a felony, punishable by imprisonment in the state prison for not more than five years, a fine of not more than $2,500, or both. With that said, no prosecution shall be commenced for this crime after one year from the time of committing the offense.

2. Selling of Cars on Sundays is Illegal

Per Michigan Law section 435.251, it shall be unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to engage in the business of buying, selling, trading, or exchanging new, used, or second-hand motor vehicles, or offering to buy, sell, trade, or exchange, or participate in the negotiation thereof, or attempt to buy, sell, trade or exchange any motor vehicle or interest therein, or of any written instrument pertaining thereto, on the first day of the week, commonly called Sunday.

3. Riding a Train while Drunk is Illegal

Per Michigan Law section 436.201, no person shall, while in an offensive state of intoxication, enter or be on or remain upon any railway train or interurban car as a passenger.

4. Adultery is Illegal

Per Michigan Law section 750.30, any person who commits adultery, without the wife’s or husband’s permission, shall be guilty of a felony. If the crime is committed between a married woman and a man, who is unmarried, the man shall also be guilty of adultery and liable to the same punishment.

Per Michigan Law section 750.31, no prosecution or law suit for adultery shall be commenced unless a complaint is formally filed by the husband or wife; and no such prosecution shall be commenced after one year from the time of committing the offense.
